700 in the mood for a record fling
From: AAP
June 11, 2006

THE threat of rain and an icy wind did not deter hundreds from participating in a world record attempt for the biggest Highland Fling at Portarlington, southwest of Melbourne, today.About 700 people took part in the attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records at the National Celtic Festival about 1.15pm (AEST).
Organiser Una McAlinden said they wanted to break the record of 684 people dancing the Highland Fling for a period of six minutes at the same time and at the same place, which was established on July 13, 2005, at Antigonish, Canada.
"We think we've got the record with about 700 people ... so that means we've beaten Canada," Ms McAlinden said.
"We had a pipe band, we had a few instructors and we had a couple of practice runs and then they kept dancing their little feet off.
"There was four and five-year-olds up to the grandmothers and grandfathers."

The Highland Fling is the oldest of the traditional dances of Scotland and was created as a dance of joy performed at the end of a victorious battle.
Ms McAlinden said they had official time keepers and adjudicators at the event to ensure the attempt was legitimate.
She said the paperwork would now be sent to Guinness Book of Records staff, but she said it could be a couple of weeks before they know if the record has been officially accepted

Not bad, huh? We broke the record. we broke the record. although you can't see it, i'm doing a little happy dance for my computer.

In the true art of laziness I am now going to copy and paste my group email to save me from retyping the same message twice:

Hey everyone,
Ok, so I know that I am slack and haven't really been emailing anyone
but hey, I have been a busy girl. Well, if you could call drinking
and working being busy that is... So, anyway I haven't really sent
out a group email in ages and while I did have intentions of sending individual emails to everyone I really can't be bothered (no offence!) and I would probably just write the same thing in everyone's emails anyway! So I will just give you all a brief run
down of what I have been up to...
So, I haven't really done much travelling once again due to my dire financial situation. Things are improving on that score (I will talk more about that in a bit) and I have a few short trips in mind. I am thinking about doing Paris, Amsterdam, and Edinburgh as weekend trips and then do some longer trips to Spain, Greece and Italy. I have booked Oktoberfest which I am well excited about, plus I get to go to Austria as part of the tour which is pretty cool. I have still been getting out and about every weekend doing touristy stuff which is good - last weekend I did the National Gallery and Tate Modern (they
have just done a re-hang of their general display area and have lots
of cool new stuff like Andy Warhol, Duchamp, Jasper Johns, Oldenberg etc.) There are so many great galleries here and the best thing is that most of them are free so it is a great way to spend the weekend.
London has gone world cup crazy and I do admit that I have been a bit partial to screaming my head off when Australia has been involved (don't even talk to me about the Italy game - we were robbed... ROBBED!!). The great thing about here is that you get to knock off work and go to the pub if your team is playing, so even though the AUs / Italy game was at 4pm, I got to stop work and go the pub.
Brilliant! Well, except for the fact that we were robbed... Another
wicked thing is that the weather over here is really nice at the
moment. SUmmer has finally kicked in and the sun is shining. Nice...
I even have little bit of tan (I am still really white though!)
Work is really good. I have been working at an online advertising
technologies company and have been offered a contract (and a very
nice pay rise to go with it. ) I am going to be managing online
search campaigns which sounds quite dull but is actually pretty
interesting - well, I think it is anyway. Everyone that I work with
is wicked and the office has a good vibe about it. The other good
thing is that I can take holidays whenever I need to and can go away
for a bit and come back if I want. Nice hey! The director is an
AUssie so we get along really well and he is pretty nice to me which
is always a good thing.
I have started going to life drawing classes which has been really good. I have only gone to a few but am really enjoying drawing again.
I am thinking about doing some of the weekend drawing and painting
classes too but haven;t booked any as yet. They sound really good
though. Apart from that not all that much has been happening. Have
been going out a little bit but not too much - I don't like wasting
the weekends being hungover so I have kept that to a minimum. I have
a few more photos to add to my blog so once I get around to updating I will you all know when I have added them so that you can check them out.
Love you all lots, feel free to email me and fill me in on what is
happening in your lives.
Cheers,
Sar
